Places To Ride
Canning Street Reserve Avondale Heights
5 stars Footscray Park, Footscray (pretty obvious really)
Whilst not quite in the same league as Canning Street, Footscray park provides some nice asphalt running tracks with a few medium grass slopes. I think the Outback three wheelers would eat this joint up.... the quaddies can sometimes struggle for momentum in a few spots. There are some good stair sets for those of us that are that way inclined. A decent ride, nothing too savage but worthy of a visit all the same. Not the sort of spot you could hit all day, more of a boredom buster! There are plenty of BBQs, tables, toilets, taps etc at this venue. 3 stars Flemington Racecourse The Flemington Racecourse is where I learnt to ride and continue to ride at least once a week. It has all sorts of riding terrain and is the ultimate ride for anyone starting, looking for downhill action or wanting to get some practice on those power slides. The best run at the racecourse would have to be the road which is 75% of the time closed to traffic, it is a really long ride and can get you going very fast. Another plus for this spot is that Footscray park is only about a five minute walk from the racecourse. Security are never much of a hassle as long you aren't damaging anything and its not a race day or anything like that. 3 and a half stars Aberfeldie Park Aberfeldie Park is one of my personal favourites. At first look from the car park you could be fooled into thinking that the steep - but - short grass slopes are all that the place has to offer. Think again. Out the back of the park behind the Aberfeldie Athletics Track lies a choice ride, long steep runs through trees and shrubbery, gravel single trail, dirt jumps and logs. There are natural drops and some pretty gnarly lines to take down the hill. As far as facilities in the area go, there is not much except for the facilities at the Athletics track. Do yourself a favour and give this place a burl. |
