SUNDAY 16th December 2001
The BIG VIC SESH was probably the most anticipated event in the Victorian ATB scene's short history. The regional riders from Ballarat had already had an awesome session as had the ATB Aus crew had their own sessions in the past. This was the first time all the groups had come together. Melbourne managed to shrug off its early summer slump and put on a beautiful day for everyone, I know when I got home my neck was red raw. The track was hard and fast, and to everyone's delight the grass had been freshly mowed. The day saw plenty of big air and big ol' slides. All the lads were all rippin' it up on the ATB AUS kicker:
For perhaps the first time in Canning Street Reserve's history not only were there mass Chinese downhill races but there were also mass tobogboard races which were perhaps the gnarliest, most competitive races of the the day ;) (heheheh)
I am sure that evryone there would agree with me that the spot was
awesome and would recommend it to anyone coming down to the area. There was a
little bit of everything from stair riding in the BBQ area to extreme downhill
speed to surface slides and of course the big air and FLATLAND! not many
injuries to ruin the day came our way so we were all lucky in that respect, the
worst of my injuries being this:
There were four ramps and one rail all strategically placed along the run we mapped out and everything saw plenty of action. Unfortunately my dodgy rail of doom didn't deliver the goods and was retired before the lunch break. The truly went off and I would like to thank everyone for coming, my mother for doing the BBQ and everyone that brought ramps. A good time was had by all and hopefully the Canning Street leg of the BIG VIC SESH will become a bi-annual event, along with other sessions all over this great state of ours. CHEERS! |
