Ballarat Session

SATURDAY 14th September 2002
Peady St Reserve Ballarat

The cold, damp emptiness that we know as winter had once again made way for the warmer months. With the warmer months comes the riding! Lots and Lots of riding, and to kick off the new ATB session season the Egan family jumped into the Waffsmobile and headed out to Ballarat.
Ballarat and my family have a close bond, my great-great-great grandfather has a street named after him, a lake named after him and is buried in the New Ballarat Cemetery. Why? you ask, he was the first man to find Gold in Victoria at Clunes. But enough of the history lesson, so as my ancestor did many years ago I ventured into the great unknown to meet up with Ryan and a splattering of characters from far and wide.

The morning session was absolutely awesome, if not terrifyingly painful, and due the the fact that my concentration was solely on staying alive I didn't get many pictures (sorry). The first run of the day left me with corkies, cuts and bruises everywhere. At this point in time Waffle's says "things are only going to get better from this point on..." And they did! The free ride session was really good and got everyone pumped for the next part of the day.

Move over Slim, Big Dusty is in the house.

Ryan and Sam have put together quite an impressive little dirt park together, one that provided plenty of thrills and spills during the day. From the DBX run with the whoops and little jump to the Monster Air gap jump there was something for everyone. I commend all the dudes who had the balls to take that big jump, it is something that I don't think I could ever do.

Rather than soar higher than an eagle on pot, I decided to tackle the whoops and tiny jump which provided me a sufficient enough challenge. While the riding levels of everyone there may have varied one thing will be certain there will be plenty of irregular colours in tissues all around Victoria today, the dust was almost as bad as the mosh pit at Rockalonga..

A big thanks must go out to Ryan, Sam and their respective families for making the day possible. Goshen for the demo board, Hugh and Hugh's dad for giving us a lift back to the top of the hill. Everyone for coming, especially those from far away and to MunroMB for bringing down some gear to purchase.
Until next time this is Waffles, signing out.
